The Jump From 'Good PM' to 'Trusted Senior PM'

If you're early in your PM or Site Manager career, it's easy to judge progress by deliverables sent, meetings attended, tasks closed.

But that's not how senior PMs think.

Senior PMs track risk movement. A noisy issue that's actively controlled is usually fine. A quiet risk that hasn't shifted in weeks? That's where projects get hurt.

The jump from "good PM" to "Trusted Senior PM" isn't about doing more tasks, it's about learning how to identify risk early, shape solutions, and stay ahead of problems before they land on site.

That mindset doesn't come naturally, and it's rarely taught properly.

It's built through exposure. Through watching how a senior handles a difficult client conversation. Through being in the room when a programme is under pressure and seeing what decisions get made and why.

If you're delivering well but feel there's another level you haven't reached yet, that's usually the gap.
